Doctor of Medicine (Oviedo) and Doctor of Public Health (London). Medical specialist in Preventive Medicine and Public Health trained as epidemiologist at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK) and Unité de Recherche Biomathématique et Biostatistique – Université Paris VII (France).

He was President of Médecins Sans Frontières – Spain and has worked in design, implementation and evaluation of international cooperation programs in the fields of Epidemiology, Disaster Medicine and Public Health in several countries of Africa, Central and South America and Asia. He is currently Associate Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the Department of Medicine of University of Oviedo (Spain) where he directs the Unit for Research in Emergency and Disaster (UIED).
