The EMJMDPHID shall make available a maximum of 20 places for highly qualified students and candidates from any country are welcome to apply to it. EMJMDPHID consortium has adopted a single admission procedure, which is administered and managed online.
Selected applicants (proposed for a scholarship, put on the reserve list, or enrolled on a self paying basis) data may be used for the purposes of evaluating the Erasmus Mundus Programme and will be made available to the Agency, the EM National Structures, the EU Delegations and the Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association, acting as stakeholders of the programme.
Student admission criteria
To be eligible for the EMJMDPHID master programme the applicant must be holder of a recognized primary degree in areas related to Health, Management and Administration or Social Sciences (a minimum of three years’ study at a university and of a minimum of 180 ECTS, or equivalent according to the regulations in the country of origin and to the European regulations).
The applicant academic record will preferably include studies in the following topics:
- Basic concepts in public health and epidemiological methods
- Introduction and basic principles in health sociology, psychology or economics
- Law and bioethics
- Special topics in public health and population sciences
- General approaches in public health, health promotion and health systems
- Principles of statistics
- General and financial management
- Environmental health
Applicants must have a good command in English. Applicants must prove a C1 English level (IELTS (minimum score of 6.0 with at least 5.0 point in each section); TOEFL (paper based) at least 575 points with 4.0 in the writing section; TOEFL (IBT) 79 points with at least 17 points in every section). Candidates from English speaking countries must provide an official letter from their University from which they graduated attesting that English is the media of instruction, to be assessed by Academic Committee.
Candidates must fill in the online application that can be accessed at the web-site and upload all supporting documents in digital form, including the relevant certificates and transcripts of previous studies. No original official documents need to be sent at application. Upon admission to the programme, pre-selected candidates must send in certified hard copies of the supporting documents by recommended mail stamped before the registration deadline. Only complete applications will be assessed. Incomplete applications may be rejected without further notification. A complete application consists of:
- Personal information about the applicant – family name, name, date of birth, place of birth, nationality (2), address, sex, recent identity photo;
- Passport copy, as proof of nationality
- Diploma and transcripts (diploma supplement or list of the subjects taken during the study and correspondent marks) of their previous studies fulfilling the EMJMDPHID admission criteria. The diploma and transcripts must be original, certified documents, scanned and attached to the online application form. Applicants must provide a calculation of the average mark of the university degree that may grant them access to the Master course. Marks must be translated to a 0 to 100 scale using the adequate proportionality.
- Syllabus or description of the courses taken in the fields of Health, Logistics, Sociology and those courses required by Belgian regulations for students of UCL study track
- English language certificate to prove proficiency as stated in the EMJMDPHID admission criteria, as stated in section 7.1
- Other language certificates in foreign languages
- Motivation letter – this letter should present the applicant’s motivation to enrol the Master course, preferred study track and mobility, the competencies and skills he / she would like to achieve, future perspectives and aspirations after the Master course, etc.
- CV with information about relevant experience and professional training. The list of past work placements should be well documented. The CV must specify the position held, main responsibilities and how long it lasted. Documentation of relevant courses, workshops, seminars etc can also be included.
- Letter of reference – minimum 2 letters, preferably one letter from an academic viewpoint and one from an employer. Reference letters must be written in English and must be signed / stamped.
- Certificate of residence. The place of residence should be verified on the basis of the provision of:
- A residence certificate issued in accordance with the candidate’s municipality normal registration rules;
- A certificate from the candidate’s place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question.
All application documents should be submitted in English. Applicants must provide official translation of any document in other language. Otherwise documents will not be taken into consideration.
It is the full responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary documentation. The applications will be exclusively assessed on the information provided by the applicants in the on-line form which are clearly supported by the supporting documentation. In case of any difference between claimed and documented merits, only the documented merits will be taken into consideration.
Application and Registration Deadlines
The deadline for submitting the application to the EMJMDPHID will be the 31st december each year.

* Send the application original documents by post, including the bank receipt of the payment of the first tranche of the tuition fees for students that are not holders of Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
NOTE: Admission process will start the previous year to the commencement of studies. Selection process and Decision will be done the same year of the commencement of studies.
Student selection procedure and criteria
All application will be first pre-screened for formal requirements. Only complete applications will be assessed. Incomplete applications may be rejected without further notification, as well as the applications of candidates not meeting the admission criteria (University degree and English proficiency).
Complete applications will be assessed against three criteria:

- a) Academic track record.
Academic records will be assessed taking into account the relationship between the applicant previous academic career and the Master objectives and contents. The assessment will be based on the Academic marks of the Higher Education degree giving access to the EMJMDPHID Programme, according to the applicant declaration.
Applicants must provide a calculation of the average mark of the Higher Education degree that may grant them access to the Master course. Marks must be translated to a 100-scale using the adequate proportionality. Indications of the equivalences between grading systems may be available at your home University, or at the national education departments. The 0-100 mark will be weighted by 0.2.
Additional scoring may be awarded by the Academic Committee to acknowledge academic excellence, up to 20 points:
- Scoring of applicants who had obtained the academic degree giving access to the Master at any of the top 500 Universities according to internationally recognized ranking may be increased by 1.25.
- Scoring of applicants who had obtained additional University degrees relevant to the Master topics may be increased up to 1.5 points.
- Scoring of applicants claiming a University degree of 240 ECTS or equivalent (four-year studies) to access the EMMPHID Master Programme will be increased up to 1.5 points.
- b) Professional and research experience
Work and research experience may only be taken into account if directly related to the Masters’ contents. Research scholarships and internships will also be considered as effective working time. Applicants will be awarded with 0.2 point for each month working period, up to 3 points.
Publications may only be taken into account if it had been directly related to the Master contents. Applicants will be awarded with 1 point for each published article (JCR) and 0.5 for any accepted contribution to international scientific conference or to not indexed journals, up to 4 points.
Knowledge of other languages of interest for scientific purposes: up to 2 points.
Other relevant academic merits, such as additional studies indirectly related to the Master content may be awarded with a maximum of 2 additional points.
- c) Personal interview
Only the students the best ranked students shall be eligible for personal interview.
Interviews will be conducted with the candidates in order to assess other factors affecting their application. The interview will be conducted in English and could be organized via videoconferencing or other standard equipment. The evaluation of the interview will assess the candidate’s motivation to enrol in the Master, including consistency between the candidate’s professional expectations and the goal of the Master course, as well as the match between the candidate’s previous knowledge and the content of the Master courses. Results of the interview will be scored 0 to 10 points.
After the interview, the applicants will be ranked according to the score obtained during the selection process. The Academic Committee will choose the best ranked students and will propose them for admission to the EMJMDPHID Master Programme and, according to the Erasmus Mundus regulations, to the available Erasmus Mundus scholarships. The rest of the students will go to the appropriate reserve lists.
Admission procedure and registration
Once the Consortium Committee has approved the list of admitted students and of those which will be proposed for Erasmus Mundus Scholarships or any other available funding, and the appropriate reserve lists, the Coordination Institution will submit them to the European Commission for approval.
All applicants will receive written communication informing them of the outcome of their application, as well with information on the appeal procedure. For the students placed on EM reserve list, the notification includes the results of the quality assessment, the information regarding the management / use of the reserve list, and the procedure to follow for an appeal to the selection decision. For the EM students proposed for a scholarship, the notification includes the official EACEA letter of approval, a model of the Student Agreement, practical information on the Programme and the scholarship amount. Those proposed for admission will be asked to confirm their intention to enrol the Master Programme and to prepare the hard copies of the certificates and the documentation uploaded in their on-line application form. Further information will be provided once the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission makes its decision about the scholarships and in case of being finally proposed for admission to the Master.
Official Erasmus Mundus Scholarship award letters will be sent to students finally selected. The letters will include:
- Starting date and duration of the masters course; information on the mobility path of the student; Information about the visa and residence permit.
- Scholarship details: Total scholarship amount; total participation cost amount (including tuition fees and insurance coverage); contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs; scholarship monthly allowance.
- Useful information: information on the insurance coverage provided by the consortium; bank account; housing facilities; contact information.
- A copy of the certificate on the award of the Erasmus Mundus scholarship and a support letter of the coordinating University for visa application purposes.
The letter will also include deadlines and procedures for registration at the Coordinator University. For administrative purposes students may also be registered at the Universities where they would be attending the specific modules.
If this deadline is not met, the notification of acceptance will be null and void. If a number of places is still available after the deadline for registration expired, a corresponding number of applicants from the reserved list, who did not initially receive notification of acceptance, will be proposed for admission according to the ranking.
Self-financing students must pay the first tranche of the tuition fees for the academic year. Second tranche may be paid at the beginning of the second semester. No enrolment will be accepted without payment of the tuition fee. Failure to pay any subsequent tranche may result on the exclusion from the Master Programme.
Upon enrolment students will sign a Student Agreement with the representative of the Coordinator University, setting the rights and obligation of both parties, Student and Consortium.
The draft document will be provided to the selected students and regulates:
- Student rights and obligations, particularly the student administrative, financial and academic obligations concerning his/her attendance to the course/activities and academic performance, as well as the consequences for not respecting these obligations. The Student Agreement establishes the grounds for exclusion and the procedures for taking that decision and to appeal it.
- Erasmus Mundus Consortium commitments towards the EMJMDPHID students, including the commitment of awarding and issuance of the Joint Master Degree and the Diploma Supplement to the successful students, the quality of the course, the support services, etc.
- Financial arrangements, detailing the tuition fees, the timetable for payments, and the included services and facilities.
- The main milestones in the masters course calendar, and the examination periods. The nature of the exams/tests and the grading system used to assess the student’s performance. The Agreement will include the student choices on mobility and specialization.
- Mutual responsibilities and third-party liabilities, particularly concerning in case the student leaves or is excluded from the Master.
